Welcome to Second Grade Art!
Second Grade artists will further develop their skills by gaining a greater understanding of color theory. They will continue building a foundation by focusing on the primary and secondary colors as well as warm and cool colors too! In grade two, students will continue developing their observational drawing skills, learn how to show form and use watercolors. During this year our Artists will work with a greater diversity of materials, learn about some of The Principles of Art including Pattern, Movement, and Rhythm as well as new vocabulary words and proper critique etiquette.
Second grade artists make slab bowls! Most artists used leaves for their bowl shapes but this artist make one inspired by a cat!
Guatemalan Worry Dolls
Second Graders learned about this history of Guatamalan Worry Dolls and how they were made. Then we made our own Guatemalan Worry Dolls to take our worries away.
Picasso Inspired Guitars Second Grade artists learned about Pablo Picasso and looked at several different pieces of his where the subject was guitars. They learned that he used collage to create his guitars for some of his art while his painting The Old Guitarist was from his blue period which was cast with a blue because he was sad. For our project, we showed how he felt through the color of our guitars and collaged with recycled materials to finish them off! |
This is a beautiful Grade Two Still Life painting that uses Monochromatic Color and tints and shades to create a sense of Unity!
