Thank you for supporting the Arts by coming to visit us at the Elementary District- Wide Art Show at the Westerly Public Library in February! In the Art Room, Kindergarten Artists are creating Self Portraits using watercolors and are learning how to accurately draw and place the features on the face. First Graders are learning how to draw and paint different types of Cylinders inspired by the Artist Andy Warhol. Second Grade Artists are creating the different lighthouses throughout Rhode Island using scratch art and new watercolor techniques. Third Grade Artists are creating elephant paintings inspired by the Elephant Festival in India and are learning different techniques for shading a sphere. Dear Families,
I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are enjoying the beautiful snow! Here in the Art Room, Kindergarten Artists are busy mixing their secondary colors to create bunny Color Wheels inspired by the book White Rabbit's Color Book by Alan Baker. First Graders are creating Self Portraits inspired by the Illustrator Eric Carle. Second Grade Artists are learning how to weave a tree for their landscapes using paper plates as their looms. Third Grade Artists are going to be creating Monochromatic Landscapes using tints, shades and printmaking. Fourth Graders are creating Portraits of our amazing State Street Staff using the Grid Method that is inspired by the Artist Chuck Close. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful start to the school year! In the Art Room, Artists have been busy creating both a collaborative project and our first projects of the year! Kindergarten Artists are learning about Piet Mondrian and the three Primary Colors. First Graders are learning about Reggie Laurent and will be creating paintings using Geometric and Organic Shapes as well as the Primary and Secondary Colors and Pattern. Second Graders are creating Self-Portraits inspired by Sandra Siberzweig and will be using Chalk Pastels with Analogous Colors and Pattern. Meanwhile Third and Fourth Graders are creating their Sketchbooks. Third Graders are using Collage, Words and Symbolism to represent who they are and Fourth Graders are using One Point Perspective to draw their Inital. I hope that you all are enjoying the lovely Spring weather and are getting excited for our upcoming Art Shows in April and May! The Springbrook Art and Music Night for Grades 1 & 2, will be on Tuesday, April 9 with Artwork on display from 5:45- 7:15pm and Westerly Elementary Artists will have a collaborative project on display at the Virtu Art Festival on Saturday, May 25, 2019 (pending good weather). The State Street Art Shows will be on May 23 for Grades K-2 and on May 30 for grades 3 & 4 and both events will be from 5:00- 7:00pm. In Art, Kindergarten Artists are learning how to draw Self- Portraits using guidelines to accurately place the features of the face! First Graders are finishing up their paper weavings using the over under technique. Second Graders are finishing their artwork inspired by Where the Wild Things Are using Line, Texture and Color. Third Grade Artists are creating Prints using Onomatopeias and Fourth Graders are finishing their Self-Portraits using Gridding, Value, Color and Symbolism. I hope that everyone has been having a wonderful winter and is enjoying the little snow that we have been getting! In Art, Kindergarten Artists are learning how to draw people using simple shapes and collage. First Graders are learning about weaving and are creating their first weavings on paper using the over and under technique! Second Graders are creating artwork inspired by Where the Wild Things Are using Line, Texture and Color. Third Graders are learning about Onomatopoeias and are creating their own Prints using an Onomatopoeia of their choosing Fourth Graders are finishing their Self-Portraits using Gridding, Value, Color and Symbolism. First Graders are creating cylinder drawings inspired by Andy Warhol using the Primaries, Secondaries and Warm and Cool Colors. Second Graders are learning about Wayne Thiebaud and are drawing cylinder cakes using a theme of their choosing. Third Graders are learning how to shade spheres using value and will be creating a work of art using Monochromatic Color and tints and shades. I hope that everyone enjoying this joyous holiday season that is upon us! In Art, we have had a wonderful start to the school year. Artist's have been busy at work getting their artwork ready for the spring Art Shows! Kindergarten Artists are learning about Wassily Kandinsky and are continuing to focus on how to use their Primary Colors to mix their Secondaries! First Graders are learning about their Warm and Cool Colors and are creating landscape silhouettes of somewhere special. Second Graders are painting Still Lifes using monochromatic colors. Third Graders are learning about the Primaries, Secondaries and Intermediate Colors and where they are on the Color Wheel. Dear Families, I hope that everyone had a refreshing summer and is excited to be back! Here in the Art Room, we have had a wonderful start to the school year. Artist's have been refreshing on their rules and routines as well as making a beginning of the year school-wide fish assemblage inspired by the book Only One You by Linda Kranz. Now as we enter into September, students are beginning on their first projects of the year. Kindergarten Artists are learning about Piet Mondrian, cutting, line and the Primary and Secondary Colors. First Graders are learning about Wassily Kandinsky, the different types of lines and shapes and the primary and secondary colors and how to mix them! Second Graders are learning how artists use color to symbolize how they feel, how to draw Self- Portraits and how to use line and pattern too. Third and Fourth Graders are learning about the Day of the Dead. Third Graders are learning how to draw skulls and shade them using light, medium and dark values. Where Fourth Graders are building paper mâché masks inspired by the Mexican sugar skulls by drawing the skulls on their masks and embellishing them with lines, patterns and designs inspired by someone special.
